Caffè Experience

Experience Description

Experience the legacy and artistry of Roman coffee culture on this comprehensive tour, designed to leave you with a profound appreciation for one of the world’s most beloved beverages.

Join us for an unforgettable caffè experience in Rome, where we will explore the rich history and unique flavors of Italian coffee. This immersive experience offers a deep dive into the diverse varieties of Italian coffee as we visit the most renowned coffee house in the Eternal City.

The iconic establishment we will visit has been delighting Romans with exceptional coffee since 1938. However, its origins trace back to the 1800s when it was known as “Caffè e Latte,” located just a stone’s throw from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. For its time, the place was quite innovative, built with masonry and ergonomic shapes, devoid of wooden furniture, and characterized by the use of white, giving it a modern appearance. The beautiful palace housing this coffee house is Palazzo Cenci Maccarani, designed in the 1500s by the famous architect Giulio Romano, renowned for his work on Palazzo Tè in Mantua.

Today, the coffee house remains a pillar of tradition and quality, now managed by its current owners who are committed to preserving its legacy. They ensure that every cup of coffee is a product of excellence, using only organic and fair-trade beans sourced from slow food projects. Their blends are made from 100% Arabica coffee imported directly from South America, maintaining a fine balance of tradition and quality.

During our visit, we’ll have the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of their coffee-making process. This will include an engaging tour of their new emporium, where the owner will personally deliver a fascinating lecture on coffee. Here, we’ll learn about the origins of coffee, the various types grown around the world, the biggest coffee consumers, and the intricate cultivation process.

The lecture will provide deep insights into how to discern the quality of coffee, the detailed steps involved in coffee production, the roasting process, and the differences between Italian and American roasting techniques. This knowledge will not only enrich your appreciation of coffee but also equip you with the expertise to identify and enjoy high-quality brews.

In addition to the technical aspects of coffee, the session will also cover interesting topics such as the nature of caffeine and coffee intensity. We will explore the various ways to enjoy coffee, from the traditional espresso and doppio to caffè corretto and iced coffee. You’ll discover which types of coffee contain the most caffeine, which is the most expensive coffee in the world and why, and many other curiosities, including the intriguing connection between this Roman coffee house and the invention of Nespresso.

After a comprehensive 50-minute informative session, we will finally get to taste a blend of their renowned espresso. This tasting session will allow you to experience firsthand the exceptional quality and flavor that has made this coffee house a favorite among Romans for decades.

Following the tasting, there will be ample time to shop for their exquisite products. The emporium offers a wide range of coffee-related items, perfect for gifts or as a treat for yourself. This shopping opportunity is a great way to bring a piece of this remarkable coffee experience home with you.

Finally, we will take a stroll to the original location near the Pantheon, still adorned with its original 1938 furnishings. This historical tour will give you a sense of the enduring legacy and charm of the coffee house, set in the heart of Rome’s historic center.
